COVID-19: Safety is our Priority

The health and safety of our patients, our employees, and the communities we serve is our top priority. Every patient who enters our facilities is screened for COVID-19 using guidelines set forth by the CDC, and as of yet, no one has met the guidelines for further testing and investigation. While there are now a few patients in Kentucky who have tested positive for COVID-19, there are still no known cases in our service area.

By contrast, last week we reported the 2nd highest number of positive flu cases of this flu season. At the present time, the risk of exposure to both Influenza A and B remains significantly higher than COVID-19 and poses the more immediate challenge to the health of our communities.

There are a number of steps you can take to protect your health and those around you from any respiratory illness, including both Influenza and COVID-19:

  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Seek medical attention as soon as you have any symptoms.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then dispose of it immediately. If no tissue is available, you should cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Get a flu shot if you haven’t already done so.

Our hospital system has a robust preparedness plan and team of respondents, and we will continue to actively monitor the COVID-19 situation very closely. We are following CDC recommendations and guidelines. As new information becomes available, we will continue to implement our plan in conjunction with regional, state and federal agencies.
