Emergency Department

When you have a life-threatening illness or injury, you need access to the nearest emergency room. That's why the T.J. Samson Community Hospital emergency room is open 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Total emergency room (ER) care

We are staffed and equipped to handle all types of emergencies. When you arrive in our ER, a triage nurse will evaluate you promptly. If your condition is severe or life-threatening, our doctors and nurses will begin treatment right away.

And you can feel confident that your emergency medical team is highly skilled and trained. For starters:

  • Our ER nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
  • Many of our ER nurses have also completed Trauma Nursing Core courses.

Stroke-ready ER

T.J. Samson Community Hospital is one of only 14 locations in Kentucky that are a Joint Commission-certified Acute Stroke Ready Hospital.

Stroke is one of the most common causes of permanent disability. Our ER team is prepared to quickly diagnose and treat stroke patients on-site.

For example, our doctors and nurses are trained to recognize stroke warning signs and give a stroke-stopping drug called tPA (tissue plasminogen activator). Thanks to telemedicine, a highly trained neurologist is always available to help us provide 24/7 stroke care.

Neighbors taking care of neighbors

In our ER, every patient is family to us. That's why we do all we can to keep you here in our community and close to your family. But if your injury or illness requires a higher level of care, we are prepared to transfer you to the appropriate hospital.

We are proud to be a community hospital. And we are proud to offer you excellent and compassionate emergency care.
